Vocab Express, the online modern foreign languages (MFL) vocabulary learning application, has been awarded "Language Product of the Year" in the 2011 Linguascope Awards.
The Linguascope Awards aim to highlight outstanding achievements by individuals, companies and organisations in the field of modern foreign languages. As "Language Product of the Year", Vocab Express was deemed outstanding by an experienced, comprehensive panel of judges consisting of practicing teachers, school leaders, education resource directors, publishers and university lecturers.
Vocab Express provides an innovative, interactive method for engaging and inspiring young people in MFL which can be perceived as a difficult option. It is designed specifically to make the foundations of learning another language - the vocabulary – engaging and easier through a process of learning, revising and testing.
Designed after two years of close partnership with leading MFL departments, the multi-lingual library of pre-loaded and categorised vocabulary for Key Stages 2 to 5 is sourced from major exam boards and leading MFL publishers including AQA, CIE, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, Pearson and Hodder Education. Vocab Express engages students with an innovative points and scoreboard system, allows progress to be monitored and tracked at a glance, and keeps students actively learning with school and home access to raise attainment. Individual and family subscription services enable children whose school is not currently subscribing to experience and learn with Vocab Express.
Justin Sycamore, managing director, Vocab Express comments: “We are honoured to have been chosen as winner of Language Product of the year. This recognises the high level of teacher and student involvement in the design of Vocab Express; working from ground-up to ensure the product is tailored to the needs and specifications of both parties. Integrating text, images and audio in an engaging and inspiring manner, Vocab Express reinforces and advances classroom learning to allow young people to flourish. We are proud that our innovation in the field of modern foreign languages has been recognised.”
Stéphane Derône, founding director, Linguascope, adds: “We are very pleased to award the Language Product of the Year 2011 award to Vocab Express as a product considered to be outstanding in the field of modern foreign languages. Too often students perceive the language learning process as tedious and language teachers continuously strive to make lessons ever more stimulating and engaging. It is only too easy to focus on short-term incentives rather than to foster long-term motivation. This is why it is important for every teacher to develop and access a „toolbox‟ of ways to inspire learners and make lessons memorable.”
The award winners were announced at the Linguascope "Bringing Languages to Life" conference Gala Dinner on Friday 1 July 2011 in Brighton.
